Re: Depth of field (practical) theory
Let's get back to the sources: photography is about the print. A monitor isn't the best support for enjoy a good image... Wrongo! My 32" HDTV displays some of the most brilliant still images I have ever seen, bar none! -Sonolta i understand the satisfaction your beautiful monitor gaves ...

Re: Depth of field (practical) theory
BUT - all our old ideas of d-o-f are failing, because we are now viewing our images much larger. Often we are viewing images as if they were not 10 x 8 inch prints, but 20 x 16s or 20 x 30s at arm's length. It is vital not to look too hard at 1:1 pixel views, especially from a camera like the Alpha...

Re: Sony late with lenses??
Vous etes presse, mon cher Monsieur?
what are you expecting for? I think you can find basically all that you need on the current line-up. I would like to see less expensive version of the 100/135 mm, 85mm and 50mm (f1.8 lenses) or a better version of the 24~105.

Re: APS-C body + two zooms
I think there is a couple of combos, regarding the occasion...
If I wanna travel light, I'll take the DT 16-80 ZA and the DT 55-200
If I wanna top quality (and I can afford it), I'll take the DT 16-80 ZA and the AF 70-300 G SSM
If I'm in a wide angle mood, I'll take the DT 11-18 and the AF 24-105

Re: Which zoom lens for a new APS-C user?
Lenses costing more than $1000 US have been excluded, as well as several very good choices that were designed as "standard zooms" for 35mm full frame or film cameras. but how much is the budget for all the 3 lenses? I think I undrstand better, you don't want to recommend 3 lenses, you wan...

Re: Diffraction defeated by pixel count - 17mm, f22
I'm not disappointed -I like this lens. You can follow a couple of discussion between Ray (Sybercitizen) on the Minolta Yahoo groups while I defend this lens while he thinks the 17-80 is much better (...) This is what I got yesterday. 17~35 f2.8-4 ftp://ftp2.phototeka.net/phototeka/A900/DSC00051manu...

Re: Diffraction defeated by pixel count - 17mm, f22
The 17-35mm has less CA than the sample of the CZ 16-35mm I tried, and less CA to correct than my CZ 16-80mm, Sony 18-250mm, or Sony 16-105mm, or 11-18mm KM or Sony lenses. Overall it's the best wide angle I have now, when used on the A900 - lowest distortion, lowest CA correction needed (+17-17 on...

Re: Diffraction defeated by pixel count - 17mm, f22
Here is the 17-35mm KM (D) f2.8-4 aka Tamron in drag, used at 17mm and f22. ACR processing used -17/+17 on the CA removal and Highlight fringe suppression, but really, the image was very clean to start with. Some capture sharpening and some final web sharpening (100, 0.7, 0) have been applied as th...

Re: I played with an A900 today
Sorry guys - the Menu item only enables a voluntary APS-C crop using normal lenses, setting it to OFF does not disabled auto crop with APS-C lenses. So, the answer is simple - you can not use the 11-18mm at 15mm on full frame. And it applies to raw. The raw is genuinely windowed, cropped down, not ...

Re: I played with an A900 today
Paul Genge said clearly that you could over-ride the crop mode when asked. This was a direct question from me, and got a straight answer, so I assume that in the menus, you can disable the function. I'll find out soon enough. David I was playing yesterday PM for 15 minutes with the A900 at the Sony...

Re: A (stitched) landscape (just before David receives his A900)
By the way, beautiful panoramas at your site! (As you very well know, panoramas aren’t easy to compose… most of the panos that can be seen in the web have no compositional justification.) Alfonso Gracias por el piropo I'd been quite busy latelly, and won't be better in the following weeks (until Ro...
