Strong graphics. Both versions work for me, it probably is just a matter of personal preference or envisualized environment which one to prefer. I don't mind coming out as a purist when admitting that #2 is my favourite.

Lusting for an 1.4/85mm - is this reasonable?
I am very fond of portraits with minimal depth of field and soft blurred out-of-focus areas, so since quite a while I am on the brink of purchasing an old Minolta 1.4/85 for my A700. But before realizing such a costly dream, I want to re-check and hear your experiences with this lens. Especially I a...

Re: firewood transport
Thanks for all the positive feedback! As a further illustration, these are the typical Sri Lanka bicycle brakes (not on his bike, I had no opportunity to inspect, I only have a qualified guess that the difference won't be too big) Oh - and don't forget to notice the slicks they use over there... htt...

firewood transport
I was in Sri Lanka again for the last project mission and had a list of things to photograph. It turned out that I only could realize the first one, but that was worth it. This is a hit-and-run shot: I saw the bicycle, asked the driver to stop, jumped out of the vehicle and had just some seconds to ...

Re: i never realised it, but i seem to ignore the rule of thirds
gio67, I think the rules are a good thing to know, and if it is only to break them! If a picture works, and this one does, then it works. Keepers are created not by following rules but a vision.

Re: horse's paradise
Greg, Kevin: There were some white blossoms further down in the background, probably wild prune because the time for cherries was already over. Bokeh-wise that lens is not to blame, especially with the sharp core still visible in the already slightly blurred horse. And besides probably some pollen o...

#2 is it for me, definitely. The misty layered landscape in the background is fantastic!

#3 still doesn't show, so thanks Doc for the recipe. That low flying heron is definitely worth the minor hazzle. Clean shots, admirable!

Re: More tulips
#1, #2, #4, #7 - all winners and the others no slouches, either. I guess you could set up an amazing series with only red tulip abstracts. Excellent work!

Re: Australian Air show
The Super Constellation shot is my favourite too. That dark sky makes an excellent background and gives an appealing color combination. Of course it would have been nice to get it at another angle with better separation of wings and tail, but at a show you have to take what you can get.

Thanks to all for the encouraging comments. It's that kind of a pat on the back that probably everybody needs from time to time. @David: thanks for the hints, gallery entry is on the way.
