Service protocol

Unread post by cosmonaut1959 »

So I need service for my a77, yeah already. The rubber came out from around the front thumb wheel. So its off to service. I got the service number off of the Sony site. Has anyone experience with service. About how long is the turn around time?..

Let me be the first to accuse you of the standard accusations:

1. You are lying.
2. You abused your Sony camera.
3. You are incompetent and don't know what you are talking about.
4. Other camera companies are even worse.
5. You are a troll for posting this.

 I hope I didn't forget any. Just having a wee bit of fun. :)

Okay, now that I have preempted the usual idiot accusations that get made when someone has a problem with a Sony product I will tell you that when I sent my A700 into Sony service it was gone a total of about 2 weeks. By the way, this was for Sony USA. I don't know about other countries. Good luck!

I sent it out yesterday, to Texas, they told me 5-7 days to repair and send back. This early in the game I may just get a new camera. I think the rubber cover is going to be a problem for many. I am sure a new design will have to be in the works.

KEEP THOSE RECORDS hiccup!! I sent off the a77 and had a WO number. I let it go for about a week before I checked status of the repair on the Sony web site. But the web site kept reading that they had not recieved the camera. I called them they told me they hadn't recieved it. I pulled the tracking number and then, Oh Yeah we got it, It's fixed but we gave it a new WO number. It is boxed and awaiting Fed Ex to pick it up. So Save those records...

That sounds almost like when I returned my Hawaiian Telecom dsl modem/wireless router almost 2 months ago when we left Hawaii and came to Japan. They used to have store fronts around Honolulu where you could pick it up and drop it off, but they closed all of those last year. Now you have to call them, they email you a UPS shipping label, and you send it back that way. About 2 weeks after sending it they sent a bill for $130 to my address in Texas saying I hadn't returned the device. Fortunately, UPS tracking showed they received it the day after I shipped it and even had the name of the person who signed for it at their warehouse. I had to call them and, as usual in Hawaii, the person was very nice and we quickly got the problem resolved and the bill canceled.

Well it's on the way home. I probably won't get it until Tuesday barring a Friday the 13th miracle. The the NEX 7 is a perfect backup.
