Re: I hate to say it..but
For those who are stil afraid on both sides of the fence (manufacters and users) video on dSRL won't replace handycams. It will bring just a wonderful creative tool. Imagine filming with a Lensbaby: http://vimeo.com/tag:lensbaby" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (I'm geting a Composer soon becuase the G3 is a littel fragil for walkaround)
I want video on an affordable FF alpha!

Re: I hate to say it..but
It will be interesting to view the results of people taking video with a DSLR, without the benifit of a sholder cam or fluid head tripod..especially of action in low light with a DSLR's reasonably shallow DOF....jerk free, wobble free, smooth pan....I'll be waiting, this is going to be good...

Re: I hate to say it..but
Yes that's impressive, I have sound breakup here tho, not sure what the reason is, maybe compression, there also appears too be quite a few dropped frames scattered throughout but most likely the same reason, but wow look at the stuff they had to bolt onto the camera to turn it into a reasonable large format video cam. Is that cost effective....probably is I guess.Sonolta wrote:How about with a RedRock shoulder mount and some other stuff...

ps. Have figured out what is wrong with the playback, the progress bar 'download' is too slow for the playbar following on behind, if you grab the blue end and drag it back then release the play then is cleaned up just fine..for a little while until it starts to catch up again.

Ok I'm impressed with the Canon...with some shadows lifted a tad that would be more than acceptable.Sonolta wrote:Now have a read of the man's blog!

Ok I'm convinced, large frame video is now possible with a DSLR. A Canon 5D Mk II DSLR that is.Sonolta wrote:Pako style...5DMKII + 85 1.2 L (NO IS) Final dance of the evening handheld under the stars...extreme lowlight sample.

Re: I hate to say it..but
Yep that's what I figured, with some support like the pod etc. it would give one a fighting chance, that's miles better than most handicam junk I've seen.Sonolta wrote:Birthday party for 7 year old kid at the bowling alley....

Re: I hate to say it..but
Wrong link, I've seen that one, didn't know which it was in the playlist but I had a look at the African Grey Parrot, that is a good one shot from reasonable close (it looks like it) and reasonable depth as well...I'm wondering what that adaptor is....?Sonolta wrote:Snowboarding tricksters:

Re: I hate to say it..but
Quite a challenge that one with the strong backlighting, you can see the odd problem with WB and focus as well but still very good, especially when he nails the focus, then it's really outstanding.Sonolta wrote:500D + Zeiss 85 1.4 + Cheap Tripod Overcast Day = Sweet Film

Re: I hate to say it..but
Is the WB adjustable with video? that was obviously shot with tungsten light but normal Auto WB, some focus issues framing issues as well, but still miles better than a handicam in similar circumstances.Sonolta wrote:Nudity Warning! Rebel T1i lowlight test - handheld

Re: I hate to say it..but
That ski one was shot at high res. it's comparable and maybe even better than a HQ commercial video camera in that regard but has suffered a loss of frames/sec, but incredible clarity just the same...probably the light level wasn't quite up too the mark for such high res/frames/sec. now I'm thinking what is actually possible with slo-mo, what EV do you need too get good slo-mo (res tradeoff) etc. amazing stuff tho, DSLR video is miles better than I thought it would be.
Yah, I didn't notice that one with the parrot wasn't a DSLR shoot....duh
Greg
ps Those digicam - 35mm adaptors are actually DOF reducers, most video cams have miles of DOF (small frame), and you are unable to isolate a subject like you can with 35mm.
