Was trying to pick up a pentax eyepiece magnifier for the last couple of days. nobody had them in stock and aparently the pentax office is where you leave a message and they get back to you but they will only speak to dealers. well I went and looked at the Sony one and picked that one up instead (it was just going to be a hassle to get the pentax from the dealer) .. First thing I discovered was my diopter was set wrong but once I got that dialed in everything is good. the extra magnification is what I should have been going for anyway. even if it does distort the edges of the frame with 2.3x magnification it really brings the image up so you can seethe details.. the only down side compared to the other ones is the fact that it'll give you a black eye if your not paying attention because it stick off the camera quite a ways.. With my diopter being set wrong by only 2 clicks I couldn't really tell through the VF that my manual focus shots were a touch OOF, I guess I should be checking that regularly to make sure it doesn't get bumped again.. this may have been why I felt I should have one of these magnifiers in the first place.

/me wanders off in search of an icepack

Now that I have the FDA-A1AM (the right angle finder) I am seriously considering to have the Magnifier too. Anyone with normal sight should own at least one of these after 40 (I think you know why). So bottom line, you did a right thing acquiring that new toy. Congratulations. :D

I wouldn;t use this particular magnifier for a permanent atachment. althoug it does flip up out of the way there is too much distortion around the middle. it also covers the eyestart sensors. you might pick one of these that David has reviewed instead.

I use the Pentax eyepiece maginifier on my A350. Its a great improvement. It fits as if it wer made for the camera. I also sometimes use a Seagull right angle finder. Get one of the 1.2-2.5 versions.
