A330 and BULB Setting

Unread post by Juanjo99 »

I want to take some long exposure shots with my A330. The Handbook tells me to set to "Aperture" and spin the wheel until it gets to "BULB".

It never gets to BULB but stops at the lowest aperture available on the lens fitted, thus with my Sony 18-55 SAM it stops at f3.5.

Anybody else have the same problem? Am I doing something wrong or is the camera faulty?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

You'll never get to Bulb in A mode! Even in S mode I can only get my 350 down to 30 seconds. However, in M mode I CAN get it all the way to Bulb.

Just switch to M and you'll get there!

Thanks Dusty..... however on the A330 same problem on M mode. it just gets down to f3.5, despite it saying use Bulb for long exposures. On S mode I can up to 30secs at f36` I will just have to experiment a bit. Thanks again

Juanjo, you're adjusting the aperture, NOT the shutter speed! the f number refers to the internal iris opening in the lens.

You have to dive into the menus to get it to adjust the shutter speed when you turn the dial in M mode. There is a menu item marked Ctrl Dial Setup in the second section of the menu (at least on my 350) that controls whether is controls aperture or shutter speed in M mode. On my 350 this section is marked with a gear at the top of the menu.

Hope this helps.

Thanks again Dusty- I have finally cracked it! Experimenting on my A330 in M Mode I find you also have to hold the Exposure Compensation button down while you turn the Control Dial wheel. That gets you to BULB.

Cheers

Actually, that just toggles the control wheel from the value set up in the menu.
