The inclusion of the plastic item upper right hand side is not helping what should be a pure wool composition. Maybe there are too MANY colours and the biggest focal point - the stripey large wool ball- is not a strong colour?

Perhaps its not that there are too many colors, but that the colors and textures present are not distributed very well. It would be very well if there weren't so many of the striped yarns off to the right, and I noticed that where there are two of the same color, they are beside each other.
Perhaps a little greater depth of field would help as well, unless you coupld frame it up so that most of the yarn fell into the same plane.

For me, it lacks a center of interest. I looked at it for a while, discovered where my gaze tended to dwell and cropped out everything else.
I think it helps. Your mileage may vary.

Ooh! I think Winston's crop looks pretty good! Still your image though, Doc.

Thanks everyone. I couldn't say what, but something or many things were wrong but I couldn't figure out. I hadn't even noticed the metal cup (the one you were referring as plastic). As for the crop, I agree it's way better. This reminds me that maybe we really should begin with assignments and harsh critique.

Did a crop like Winston suggested.

It was a great suggestion - really incredible how effective the removal of some unwanted colours can be!

If you see me coming with a pair of scissors, don't let me near your prints...I'm a voracious cropper
The doctor has chosen to leave something for the red ball in the lower-left corner to rest and lean on.
This is a much better result than my overly severe crop.
