tips on fixing photos

Hi All
I have a few images like this
I'm not sure on how to correct the expourse on Erica, with out making batman and robin to dark? I have Photoshop CS2 and Gimp 2.6
Any tips would be most welcomed

I do have the RAW's (I shoot everything RAW+ jpg) my wife likes jpg, easier for her to get prints at the photo lab, I keep the RAW's hoping that one day I'll learn how to make the most of them

Hi Stephen,
I hope you don't mind but as the highlights on your daughters shirt are pretty much gone in the JPEG I thought a black and white version might work, also avoids the skin tones problem.
Like the photo by the way (my eldest would love to visit as she is obsessed with the Dark Night film and Christian Bale - teenage girls!)
