i have been asked is it better to shoot in adobe rgb or plain rgb

If you are shooting just for a web support, sRGB is what you need since only Safari can color manage images.
If you want to print, AdobeRGB is better if you are shooting JPEG only. If you are printing home you can leave the color profile untouched. If you are having your prints from a local lab or a online service, you'll better softproof (REF: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read. ... e=27922167) and convert to the papeer profile (99% of the times is a variation of sRGB)
If you shoot RAW, it doesn't really matters because you can select the color space during the export with your favourite raw processor.
I used to shoot AdobeRGB all the time and now I shoot Raw+jpg in sRGB and I have the best of both worlds.
