The Ride - Another Arthouse Film

Unread post by smulnik »

Hi All!

Just thought I'd start sharing the latest arthouse movie endeavor that I've been helping my friends with. It's called "The Ride". We actually started on the movie last summer but I haven't had a chance to share anything. I've been excruciatingly busy with a new job at the Gateway Arch over the past fall, winter, and spring. I'm only now able to catch my breath, and get back to some fun stuff. :D

As an introduction to this thread, below is a link to a video that was created for a fundraiser for this project. The fundraiser has ended so don't worry, I'm not asking for any money. The dancers in the movie are from the St. Louis ballet. They, and others who have had a hard financial time due to COVID-19 will be receiving fundraiser money for participating. Me and a few of the others involved who have been lucky enough to have been working for the past year are donating our own time and resources.

Nice collaboration and solidarity, Sig.
It's been a time of sacrifices for the majority of artists around the world. Would love to see 'The Ride' when the work on it is finished.

Thanks for sharing, :)

Hi Yildiz, :)
Hmmm… I don’t know what happened yesterday. I was in the middle of that last post and suddenly the network locked-up. I didn’t even know that the post was actually created. I was surprised to see it when I logged in today.

Here are some photos from the work that we've been doing for the past two weeks. The guys rented space at the Lemp Brewery warehouse in St. Louis. It’s a big old brewery that’s been out of business for years/decades, but the structure still stands as a landmark in St. Louis. The old warehouses are used for storage and by businesses that are in need of large amounts of open space.

The photos from the past couple weeks were taken with a mix of cameras: Sony A7III, Sony ZV-1, and my Pixel 3a phone.

It is difficult to add something, I would say very high quality professional work, both video and photo.

The brewery structure is really interesting, Sig. It's worthy of turning it into a great museum for a new function ... love the dark brick and the aged look ... A good shooting location choice indeed.

Looking forward to your updates on the subject. :D

Yildiz, yes it's a very interesting warehouse. However, there was no proper ventilation in the section that we were working in. The temperature in the warehouse was consistently over 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32C), and only a few windows would open to allow air flow. The dancers in the "wigwam" were taking off their shirts and jackets between scene shoots and hanging them in front of fans to dry off the sweat. It was not a pleasant environment for physical activity, but we still managed to have fun doing it. :)

Running electrical cords for powering-up the wigwam.

Making progress on the set inside the wigwam. The exposed cardboard interior is intentional. It adds to the atmosphere of a somewhat bizarre and hallucinogenic moment. :D

Sig,

You may be done with this project already (I'm late to the game), but if not, take some close-ups of the unique brickwork at the Lemp facility. One year when we there for the "haunted warehouse", my brother - a mason's tender - pointed out the "Soldiers and Sailors" brickwork there.
