Call for magazine gallery pictures
This is a call to submit images - perhaps those which have been well received here - to the Photoworld magazine gallery pages. I need to have them by Thursday 8th April at the latest. Images should be 2000 x 3000 pixels or a similar size, RGB, JPEG compression level 8, with caption and technical details, emailed to:
[email protected]
Not more than three at a time please. Do bear in mind - snow scenes, very early spring (snowdrops etc) are not appropriate, this is a Spring issue but needs to look forward to summer.
Any selected for use get a new or renewed magazine subscription for the coming year, or a brand new Photoclubalpha T-shirt. You'll love these. Sony will be kicking themselves.

Hi David, the T-shirts sound great
. Will you be offering them for sale, or only for picture submissions?
Nex 5, Nex 6 (IR), A7M2, A99 and a bunch of lenses.

Re: Call for magazine gallery pictures
There will T-shirts for men and women, different designs, and they will available for sale and also offered with new magazine subscriptions. They are being made in Kelso, so they will not be ultra-cheap (I do not intend to get them made in China etc) but will be good quality. For direct sale they will be under £15, they cost me almost £10 each in the range of sizes needed and I was not willing to invest more than £1k up front to get them into stock.
After finding out how the first batch works, and whether I cover the costs, we may make the design available via an on-line T-shirt printer at a better price - but I don't want anyone to get hold of these who is not either a magazine subscriber or a regular in the forum, unless we earn something from it. So if I put the design on Spreadshirt.com, the price may still be at the upper end.
The T-shirts have www.photoclubalpha.com printed on the back across the shoulders as well as a front logo, which you will have to wait to see.
The polo shirts will only be about £2 more expensive. They will only have the embroidered front logo. In terms of garment value, they are worth twice as much as a T-shirt. They will not be bundled promotionally with subscriptions, just sold to order (there are limits to how many I can stock). For larger picture uses in Gallery, I'll give a Polo shirt.

David, a few questions. Photos should be from Sony, KM, or Minolta, right? Is there a particular theme you are looking for? Digital only or scanned film also? Color and B&W are both okay?

Re: Call for magazine gallery pictures
All subjects are OK but anything which suits the time of year here - Spring to Summer - will be preferred to strong unseasonal pix like Autumn or Winter scenes. People pix are especially welcome as we get FAR too few, and good b/ws are desirable.
I try to group the pictures to make good layouts, but I only have three pages available this time due to an advertisement for Photo Training Overseas and their 2011 week in Egypt (Hurghada, Red Sea, Jan 28-Feb 4). So I may just allow a random selection.
I am trying to use pictures from Forum members. I want 'paper' subscribers to come here too! Minolta, KM, Sony, film, digital - all OK.

Do you want photos to be unsharpened?

Pictures sent to magazines should never be sharpened. They may be resized and that calls for any sharpening to be done only when the final size is known.

You don't need model release forms unless you are using the image commercially.Lonnie Utah wrote:Don't forget your model release forms....David Kilpatrick wrote:People pix are especially welcome as we get FAR too few, and good b/ws are desirable.

I wish I had this opportunities when I was starting in photography: our dream was getting publish -Actually, I'm still exited every time I have the opportunity to have pics published.
I won't submit anything this time -you was very kind publishing the pics of the photographic safari I organized last year in Peru in the previous issue of Photoworld. I'm dying for getting more pictures published, but I suppose (actually, I wish!) your Inbox is already full of beautiful images.
Regards

Re: Call for magazine gallery pictures
Yes, I've got the selection I need now. All the pictures will be from regular contributors to the forum, and the Gallery has a repeated exhortation to readers to come here and sign up.
My T-shirts were a disaster - the company used the artwork HUGE for some reason - and I hope they can make new samples by tomorrow evening, or I really am in trouble.
I may send out the 'wrong' samples to winners for fun
