Photographing an old friend

Last evening was a lovely night and so we went along to St Mary's lighthouse, a place I have photographed many times. But each time the light is different and I try to get a new set of images with different viewpoints and framing.

Here are a few. All taken with Sony A700 + Minolta 28 - 135 and Cokin ND grad.

Beautiful images Paul - I especially like pictures of lighthouses and these three are great. If I had to pick one it would be #3 as I like the moody colour in the sky. I agree it is rewarding to visit favourite spots and to capture the different feel that the varying light gives them. I hope that the forum will benefit from many more of your visits to this spot .

Very nice images, Paul. I like all of them, but I think that the first is my favorite.

For me it works in multiple ways - I like it just for its qualities as an image, but I am also attracted by the presence of the reflected image of the lighthouse itself. This is not unusual for other buildings, but is a very unexpected element when a lighthouse is involved, as the water near a lighthouse is seldom still enough to permit a reflection.

BTW, I know what you mean about shooting the same location many times. I do the same thing with several scenes in a local park, for the same reason - the light is always changing.

I loved the first one the best. Especially the foreground of water and the "broken" reflection of the lighthouse
lends an element of personality to the composition.
