The Damn Lake

Unread post by Dusty »

Er... make that the lake dam. Built in 1903, it created Killarney Lake in Ironton, Mo.

Notice the brush growing out of the dam face. This is just upstream from the Bible Camp I send my daughter to. I'm just a couple of hundred yards from the Chapel, which is on the banks of the stream.

Maybe it's time for another inspection? The last one I can find records on was in 1979.

Hmm, an artificial lake created by a dam!

I grew up on the banks of one like this but there actually was a neighbourhood of houses there.
The environment looks great with the lush green growth and the dampness on the concrete sides of the dam's retaining walls suggest that the brush actually was strong enough to crack the concrete and cause leaks..

But I like the look nonetheless ... : ) A wonderful place to go camping or photo shooting.

Thanks for sharing,

Interesting shot Dusty - looking at the colour of the stonework on the dam it seems that the dam is already leaking below the last set of 'repairs', where the plants are taking hold. I'm not a civil engineer, but it does look a bit concerning  .
