Very interesting, Mike.

9 poles (or something like that)...I wonder what the sculptor had in mind? Certainly attracts the eye with the so regular trimming and aligning among other irregular and more natural bits surrounding them. The blue of the sky is indeed fine.

A foggy morning it was I realized when I went to feed the sparrows and doves that were waiting for me on the window sill. Even birds feel differently when there's moisture in the air and little visibility.

Yeah who knows what goes through the mind of the arteest, maybe he had some poles at home left over from building football stadiums and decided to put them there to confuse everyone ha ha. It’s definitely a shot worth having though.
That's a pea souper Yildiz, you might have to put a little wind sock and a strobe light on your balcony for the birdies to find their way into the landing zone on the ledge. Great sun effect and golden light through the clouds and fog, looks like a nice peaceful morning.

Nice shot through the mist/fog Yildiz, would think the sun cleared things up shortly after you took the photo? not a vessel to be seen, most unusual.

Thanks for the comments guys, the walk goes up through the forest and up onto the hilltop.
The row of poles are made from pine tree trunks and were not in their natural positions.
It's a pleasant walk and each different trail has sculptures. I'll try to shoot a few more next time.
This one is on the way back down the other side.

I'm having a few issues with the sky colour when using PSE9 as the raw converter (on all my recent bodies - 580, 700) so it is not always consistent and I'm a poor editor! It sometimes seems to have too much cyan rather than blue. I'll try to post in another thread in the Alpha body section.

Today was wet and windy, not a nice day to walk but thankfully I was at work. Since I started my new job last week I have treated myself to a new toy as well, an A77. All I need now is a good quality wide zoom so Davids tales of his 16-80 are of great interest to me.

That's a good one too, they look like they would make good cat proof bird baths, the only problem is here the council would take a very dim view of them if they held water after rain as they would then potentially become dengue mosquito breeding sites.
I like the photo btw it looks like something from an alien landscape.

We refer to them as the alien space ships.
From above they appear that they have solar panels in the bowl.
I haven't been there at night so don't know if they light up.
Will have to try a night walk with some good torches.

Congrats on the new A77 Mike! Looking forward to some more of those wood sculptures with the new camera. Yesterday was shocking weather with strong winds and heavy rain. At least your new cam is weather sealed .

The birds were all snuggled up against the window frames when I went to feed them. They usually were more alert on other mornings. Fog may be making them 'sleepy' ?

Yet an other nice sculpture. I like the 'alien'ness of the whole scene. They do also loo like elevated small radars scanning the upper space.

Since Greg commented on a picture I took last summer:



I thought I'd add a shot of roughly the same subject (though I didn't work very hard at getting the framing identical) taken today:



It snowed almost all day yesterday, and during the night we apparently had some fog/low-lying clouds, so all the trees are pretty well covered with a thick layer of frost/ice. The sky is still grey, and it looks like the cloud ceiling is about 8000 feet (and my house is at about 7000 feet). On the positive side, if the skies do clear up a bit, I may get some decent shots of the trees covered in frost -- we'll see. I still clearly remember a day in South Dakota about 20 years ago when we got clear skies after about a week of freezing fog. I took off work and shot about half a brick of Velvia that day...

Oh, and for what it's worth, yes, the sky really was that blue -- that's not from a polarizer or boosting saturation (though I was fairly careful about the part of the sky to show in the background).

Even though it’s hazy often there jcoffin I still think it’s an impressive backyard view. I like the frosty shots, how do/did the mountains look when it cleared up for a while?
It’s been raining here, last night and this morning, I think the wet season has begun.

The clouds broke up a bit, but it never really got clear at all to the west. With a telephoto and a bit of careful maneuvering, I managed to get a couple that showed some bits and pieces of mountains in the background though:
