I am on holiday till Saturday on Garden Isle of Kauai with family. Probably
the last one in a while with the family, what with the little one off to University
end of this month. Will catch up upon return.

Sury
Yes, Sury, don't let anything that happened on Garden Isle of Kauai stay in Isle of Kauai. :D Let us see the many photos.
Enjoy the holiday.

Some fabulous cuisine flying through here. Those sweets look particularly good Pako, love sweet stuff.

Both food & photos 5 star Yildiz. Julia Child never did better.

Love beets Greg but never tried them in a sandwich, are those picked beets? they are what I usually eat. You know tomorrow is. The Townsville BMW Sensation Food and Wine Festival. So we are expecting some top Aussie cuisine shots. Tonights gala is sold out but the Festival got underway at 1pm today with tickets still available. Just putting you on the spot a bit old cap. :^) it does sound good about 80 wines to taste with Townsvilles top chefs handing out tasting plates. Might be ok to poke around there for a while.

You sure make use of that Top Ramen Sury, twice its popped up. Looks quite appetizing none the less.

Yeah wow gee thanks DA, I saw somewhere it was $85 per ticket kaf kaf I think I’ll pass and visit my beer fridge instead. Mind you it would be a great location to have it, on the old Victoria Bridge now converted into a big wide walkway. (Very useful for riding the bike into town)
The beetroot is pickled for sure after cooking, lots of flavour, it’s good on a hamburger as well, beetroot cleans up your blood...so they say.

Ps any other Townsville events I should know about?

That is pricy Greg, I would not shell out $85 either. Be better heading to Dan Murphy’s, you could load up the fridge pretty good with that kind of cash.

Tradies are converging at Reid Park on the week-end, even some from the US. That might be more up your street. ;^) Have my plate full of construction here in T-Town and out in Chilliwack where Steph’s mom is finding me all kinds of jobs, & I am no tradesman.

A tradies event, that sounds interesting I’ll have to investigate further, there are always things to learn about stuff, even if it’s a thinly disguised promo like the BMW thingy (I suspect) and get the punters to pay for it too, I wouldn’t mind going but I’m getting old now and sort of have a regulated way of doing things at the end of the day, water the roses, chuck some seed for the birds, look and see what’s happening in the beer fridge kind of thing. :D
And yes Birma, I highly recommend one of those, :D a man should have two things in life that are non-negotiable, a shed and a beer fridge. (I haven’t got the shed I want…yet)

Yes the fridge is necessary in the tropics Sury, I know it would be difficult to imagine for someone living in a temperate zone, but yes fridges are a fact of life here, essential actually. I don’t mind a Scotch now and then myself actually but Scotch is very expensive here, they tax it out of consideration really. :(

Greg,
I apologize if I came across that a fridge is a luxury.
I was commenting on beer fridge and NOT
about beer IN the fridge.

No problemo at all Sury, I thought I should explain about our fridge fixation here, that’s all. I remember once they had an advert here for a little while promoting some brand of beer I think it was, and it was quite cool, (cool?) the guy walked over and opened the ‘fridge’ with a flourish and there was no back in it, it was exposed to the frozen white Alaskan wilderness, guaranteeing nice cold beer without even lifting a finger.
It was dumb too I guess in a sense, anyone could walk up to the ‘outside’ of the fridge and sample any of the contents. Although there probably would be very few neighbors in that location, maybe the odd polar bear now and then.

Opening the fridge door to find a Polar Bear waiting for me could almost put me off beer completely :)

.

I'm pretty surprised that after all this chatter on cold beer not one of you uploaded a photo of your cold beer right after you took it out of the fridge and poured in a glass or before you drank it out of a bottle. : )

After all, it is the DRINKS thread too!

(Just kidding though. Do as you like.)

It’s all to do with priorities for me Yildiz, :D that’s all it is really, when it’s beer o’clock the focus is on birdseed for the seedeaters, fixing the honey in the honeyeaters dish, hosing out the birdbath, water some plants, sometimes an aerosol of bug spray under one arm too if the sandflies are bad, (they have been bad late in the afternoon this year for some reason), and holding a beer can in a cooler in the one free hand while doing all of the above, (sometimes I even have to put the beer down for a few moments) :D photography doesn’t seem to become involved somehow.
It’s been a dry winter here and there are plenty of things that need a drink all the time at the moment, not just me, the grass is threatening to go brown somewhere in the yard, the outside area is just about dead, we need some rain…soon.

First a big thanks to David Kilpatrick. Everything appears to have gone to normal in corrolation to attachments.

Hi Greg, :)

Australia is the kind of country where one has to multitask I suppose, with all the creatures you feel like taking care of. I hope you get the rain that will cool everything and everyone down. We are expecting rain too, according to the weather reports but I haven't seen a single drop fall yet.

Autumn is here and I have something for the chilly and undecided days today. Something between a soup and a proper meal: "Analı Kızlı" can be translated from Turkish to English as "With Mother, With Daughter". The round big meatfalls with minced meat and onion fillings are the 'mothers' and the smaller ones are the 'daughters'.

I don't know why our ancestors gave a name like this to the dish but it's a little thing which makes all little girls smile when their mothers are actually making the dish. No similarly named dish for 'sons' though. : )) Girl Power!

It's made of beef and bulgur, chickpeas and onions. Rather sour and flavoury in taste and good for the autumn chill.
Similar autumn dishes may show up later.:)
