Sury, you did a big mistake! Never ever do that again. Whenever the wife asks for a photo you have to say that it is impossible to do that with your present camera and lens, and that you should upgrade them, and that it really hurts you deep inside not having the necessary upgrades to fulfill her wish... and so on. You really blew it Sury...

Hi Agorabasta - very nice flower shots. I like the first with the contrasting oof pool etc in the background, and then the poppies in the second are great - fabulous reds

Yes, that pool is there to balance the colours in the frame and it also has a lot of connotations for those having to withstand long winters like the last one we had in Europe... and then there's some of the real sea shore line in the background.

So I can understand why that pool seems distracting to Sury , but I put it the way I feel, and it really was that way just a few hours ago.

Doc, I am guilty as charged. I blew it in that sense. Hopefully she will be more generous given that she liked the shot and may be
after all, everything may not be lost after all I do want that Zeiss lens. Nex7 looks interesting by every post I read.

That's one fine-petalled cactus flower and fragile Poppies and looks like a great resort place as a background. Whenever I look at the photo I get the impression that you are at a Mediterranean vacation spot... : )

Since Birma said in his introduction that the photo doesn't have to be taken in 2012, here is one from last year. This is uploaded this year to Flickr, so I hope I am meeting the
spirit of the thread.

This was taken with Sigma 28-200 at f36 which I did not realize it can go up to, in the process I turned that lens into a full fledged manual lens since the gears have now
been stripped. Either that or it is now an expensive paper weight. This is my second sigma that has stripped gear. Taken with Sigma28-200 on A900 with HVL58 flash daytime
and handheld. Due to f36, the background could be somewhat distracting, but I liked the delicate pink it captured in this shot. No PP done.

Greg, like there is no such thing like an ugly flower, there is no such thing like a bad "nectar".
It is all about different strokes for different folks.
