New camera and very nice beach shots, Mike. : )

Have to agree with all the above comments on the sweet glimmer on the wet sand. I like the second shot where the caravans are visible with a faint silhouette and a couple of lights. I was wondering what they were until you enlightened us. I think it must be magical to wake up in this special spot.. : ) And to shoot photos must be rewarding all the way.

Weather is still hot in Istanbul but not as tyring.
Yesterday, in the evening, a film crew took over our street for a shoot. I don't know what they exactly were shooting but I only noticed their presence when the director was shouting "Silence! Silence! We're rolling!".
So, I got out the camera to register the moment to add to my photo-diary. : ) Looking down on the street from my living room...

(Now, when I find more time on my hands I'll be back to comment on all the great thread entries that were posted. So many inspiring works! I feel like buying tickets to fly to all those places all at the same time!)

Filming in your street, that’s exciting Yildiz, did you find out what it was about? A doco or news stories perhaps maybe a film even.

Ps maybe they are doing a doco on illegal 5story buildings. Btw the slope of the street is steeper than it looks at first glance, until you spot the stairs that is and realize how steep it actually is, that’s a nice high vantage point you have there in your living room.

Thanks, it was pretty exciting for a while, watching them do some retakes with a certain actor. We were told that it was a documentary. Your guess is precise. : ) Your keen thinking and eyes don't miss the little details that make the real difference.

The street that intersects our narrow street is indeed very steep. In fact, all streets leading up to my home are steep, so it's really something walking up these streets after a long day.
That particular street can be considered in the same league as Sury's 'Oh, S#½t' road out in the wilderness because that's how it makes all drivers feel when it snows and skidding is inevitable. Well, even on a dry day, certain cars have difficulty driving up and dowm there and make that turn too. : ) A la Sury's Alaskan spot...

Regarding the 5-story building on the other side, a mass of paparazzis and film crews are welcome to make a scandalous film out of its certain illegalness. : )

Great documentary work Yildiz! I always enjoy getting to see the 'behind the scenes' parts!

Very nice John, the thought and the photo, I subsequently went on a search to see what I could find and I came up with the Apollo 11 landing site taken by a lunar satellite survey camera http://featured-sites.lroc.asu.edu/view_site/1 I think the LROC is funded by NASA.

Ps I wonder if NASA ever found the original footage of the ‘first step’ that came in at the radio telescope here (it was the only one that could link with the moon at that moment), tape recorded and transmitted to the US live. Apparently they did a search recently at all the likely places and NASA couldn’t locate a copy that was in the original format/codec, which was not fuzzy like it was when translated for TV, so they asked the Australian Observatory to try to find their copy and don’t think they could find theirs either…duh!

Weather at Tranquillity base is zero but the view is something to take your breath away…for good.

Greg- I remember something about those missing tapes, I remember reading that they suspected that the original Australian tape was recorded over accidentally. That would be a shame... I love that photo of Tranquillity base.. I bet that there are still some conspiricy minded folks who will say that is just a good Photoshop job.....John

It does feel a little sad that with Neil Armstrong's death a leaf has turned in the long list of Moon an space ventures. Wonder if NASA will ever again decide on an other more precisely recorded landing/mission and more documentation.

I remember that the loss of the original walk video also raised some speculation that the moon walk ever happened at all at the time. Some people still think it was all a sham, unfortunately.

May he rest in peace...and maybe he discovered a whole new 'space adventure' in his passing as some very lucky people are granted. : ) I'd like to think that.

Yep I've heard those before, I guess there is room on the world for all kinds, even delusional types, maybe they haven't been diagnosed properly yet, or are off their meds.

What really amazes me though is the photography that those astronauts did, I’m trying to imagine how difficult it would have been trying to take photos with your face a good distance back behind a spacesuit face shield using a camera that doesn’t give any feedback at all or appear to have any obvious means of composing a photo, I have no idea how one would even aim it properly let alone get the focus and exposure settings correctly set, all done manually from inside a stiffly inflated pressure suit while using stiff fat non tactile gloved fingers to try too control the camera. Now THAT is photography!
