This might be a fairly ordinary shot for some of you but it certainly isn't for the vast majority of us Australians and I'm fairly sure that's the way most of us want to keep it. Feel free to chime in here Greg!

I remember I nearly saw snow once, it was at the Australian Field Archery Championships held in NSW, during winter, (on purpose I think, to make it difficult for those not used too freezing horizontal rain etc.). We had a couple of practise days to get used to the course before the big day, and while driving out to the course on the second morning, (and trying to use the windscreen washer heater demister to get rid of the last nights ice off the windscreen), the weather guy on the local radio said it was snowing at such and such a place, which was about 21km from where we were. Of course I wanted to go and see the snow, but no one else did, they all wanted to practise, get used to the course etc. So I still have never seen snow...for real, that was the closest I've been to it...actually I'm not sure I could put up with the associated conditions/weather in order to enjoy the snow, such as living in an area like that.

Funny. years ago we were trying to pick a manufacturer for some of our machines and it was down to Japan and Taiwanese manufacturers. we had a business meeting with their lead engineers the owners of the facilities and their staff. The Taiwanese had translators with them and the meeting was in early December if I remember. the translators were young girls about 20 year old or so. well we started the meeting the day after they arrived and after about an hour a blizzard blew in with the first snow of the winter. the girls were excited and hadn't ever seen snow before. Their boss stopped the meeting and asked us to take a break for a few minutes so as the girls could go outside and see the snow for a little while. They were so giddy it was fun to watch them have a snowball fight outside the office windows. It's been 20 years now that they have been manufacturing our regular stuff.

Yildiz and Henry gave me this idea. So here we go: post some street shots; anything from people to buildings, pets, restaurants just anything, even flowers but it should be obvious it's outside, in a city/town/village

Here is a scene from Central Park in the city in which I live. This is a group of people from some role-playing organization. I did not ask them what group they were with, but I suspect that it may have been the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism).

The one's with the blue paint on their face look like they are extras in the Braveheart movie.

Together with Armen we went out to shoot. So made a small trip to a village. We were amazed that the storks didn't migrate south this winter. I remember old people say "if storks don't go, then winter will be mild", but never witnessed it until yesterday.

Here's a shot of a street in the village. Note the stork nests on the poles as well as a stork on one of them.

When I was commissioned in the New Zealand Army, I did my Platoon Commanders Course at Waiouru which is in a cold desert in the middle of the North Island. The Philippine Army sent one of their officers on the course and, during one of the field phases of the course it snowed overnight. We had to evacuate this guy because he sat on a rock all night out in the snow marvelling at the stuff. When we got back into camp from the field, we found him in the street outside the post office where he had purchased a padded post bag. He was shovelling snow into the bag to post home to his family in the Philippines

In a similar vein, a close friend of mine adopted a 6 year old girl from Brazil. I offered to go pick him up with her, but the added airfare was too much to take. He had problems all the way home as she only spoke Portuguese, and he English. I met them at the airport to facilitate matters, and the snow was just starting to fall.

I drove her and 1/2 of her new family home in my car, as she didn't want to be around her new Dad right then and asked her about the snow. Did she know what it was? Had she seen it before? Living in far southern Brazil there was a chance that she had. She assured me that she knew what is was and had seen it already.

After dinner and convincing her that her new Dad was not a monster, the other kids lost interest in being excluded from the conversation and went outside to play. After a while, she asked if she could also so out and play in the 'sand'. That was an 'aha moment' for me. I told her that 'neve' is cold and 'areia' is not. I took her outside to play in it and it was a real delight to see her take to it.

I would not be surprised if that is exactly who they were pretending to be. I have only a little familiarity with the SCA, but my impression is that the primary focus of their role-playing is the feudal era in Europe.

However, it's possible that they were aiming at some other era. The blue-painted faces of warriors in Great Britain go back more than 2000 years, as Julius Caesar wrote of encountering them when he invaded England.

I'm coming in a bit late to this thread mainly because this isn't what I usually do. However, after seeing Doc's example, I decided to use the construction all around the hospital I work at to take some shots. I took these today with the a200 and my 100-300 apo. John
