Vine leaf - tri-toned

Interesting I would say. I like it, though, frankly, the empty black space behind it is a bit distracting, or even attracting your sight towards it. The texture is excellent.

I like it Rogprov. A really interesting effect - almost like leather. Like the Doc I'm not sure about the dark space. How do you do it?

Yours is subtle and I like a lot.. This is seriously modified for artisitc effect.

I'll confess and admit this has been on another forum a few days ago ... but I really did want to know what the folk on here thought!

It's originally a colour photo (Sony a700) of a very red vine leaf in late evening low light. Converted in CS3 to black and white using a modified "maximum black" setting. Converted to grey-scale then tri-toned - black/focoltone 1002/focoltone 4003. Converted to RGB and rather overly sharpened with USM.

Soemtimes these treatments can give an otherwise mundane shot a life it wouldn't have had without. There were some really busy street scenes that were given "the hayes island effect" that was talked about a couple of years ago and I must say it made nice work of otherwise unusable shots and thats always stuck in my mind

I find all this type of image manipulation interesting...

Now this is art!! Photography is made up of 2 words, photo meaning light and graphics meaning painting. therefore painting with light. This is exactly what has been done in these images.

I really like Robbie's pictiure of the happy couple - great effect. I'd far rather something like that on the wall than an ordinary wedding photograph

Great pictures as well Sonolta - the bicycles is also my favourite, a long with th leaf details.

Remember the perception of art can be quite individual, a lot like music guess, you either like it or not. Manipulated images has its place. I like the leaf images and the bikes with the water-colour style.

I am not too much a friend of over processed images. Rogers is ok for me, Robbies not. From Dons pics, only #3 works for me (I actually like it, maybe I should watch less Tour de France )
