From the "old days", a whole two years ago, when my camera was new, I only shot jpg, and I only had the kit lens. Inspired by seeing the Doc's 18-70 pictures.

A Hebridean BlackHouse, traditional stonebuilt single storey, thatched cottage. This was built as an exercise to see if the local skills still existed, and is now a holiday cottage.



Flotsam. Secluded beaches don't get cleaned and give some idea of the amount of (plastic) junk that get chucked in to the seas.



Highland Cow. Despiste the fearsome horms, a breed that is supposed to be quite docile. (I think was a bit of a cross-breed, but my bovine expertise runs out at the point!)

This is the Minch, the sea between the Inner and Outer Hebrides, on a very calm day. Taken from the ferry.



The Isle of Harris has, for me, the most beautiful beaches. This is my favourite, Luskentyre.

It is a lovely part of the world, I also visited it a few years back, unfortunately I only had a 2 MPixel point and shoot at that time. Your photos brought back fond memories, thanks.

The house has a very authentic appeal but the moody seaside also has a 'calling' through the photos...

Wow, a good show for the kit lens! My favorite is--are--the last, um, six? The beach shots are good, especially that green wave just as it breaks.

Thanks very much to everybody for your kind comments. It has been quite revealing looking back at older photographs. Perhpas the kit lens wasn't so bad - I think a lot of the fuzziness in the images is down to my lack of skill. I haven't used it again since getting the Tamy 17-50/2.8. Perhaps I will have another go with it for old times sake? I have also learnt a lot on PPing in the last two years (much from this forum) which has helped with the shots. At the end of the day though, it's the place that really makes the photos - I was just lucky enough to be there and push the button. I can't wait to go back, trip booked for May 2009 .
