Well, Nice is not only nice but also a town in the south east of France, just next to Italy an Monaco. A week ago, we had that really clear weather that allows you to see nice ( ) colours and I took a few snaps of the airport and the mountains. The airport is built into the sea and the Alps are just next to it, if you turn your head a bit left. On thursday I did an allez-retour to Germany and returning at night is just great. Just hold your breath for the last few meters, you always think you end up in the mediterrenean

Somebody was going to say it...anyway, those mountains are spectacular! Positively massive!

Nice for some! I don't think you would swap that for our freezing rain in a hurry.

Istanbul is competing with the clear blue skies of nice Nice but it would be nice to visit Nice just to see its Airport waterfront architecture. I love such waterscape design concepts...

Love those Alps in the background, and the harbour view is, well err ah, very picturesque (see, I didn't say nice), I see you have slightly hazy conditions there, same here at the moment ....I was curious so I had to find a map of Nice so I could understand what you meant about the airport....now I understand.
Curious that the promenade was built at the instigation of some rich British holidaymakers who had villas in the area, (they used to go there too escape the freezing rain back home) apparently it was a long time ago and everyone thought it was such a nifty idea they went and built it, and it became known as the Promenade Des Englais.
Also I didn't know that Nice once had the worlds largest telescope, a 30 inch refractor (in 1888).....that's a serious refractor even by todays standards, one could get some nice moon shots with that baby.

Well we're not lucky this year. The day I took those pics was exceptional and just served to seperate two long periods of rain. Anyway, can't go on like that for ever, I hope.

Funny...
During the 9 years I lived in France, every time I went to the south (Mediterranee or the Pyrenees) it was raining. Or freezing. My ex wife used to say that I came from a rain-makers tribe in Peru and I answered that, since I leave my country so early, I learned how to make rain, but not how to stop it...

In any case, you'll always get better weather in Nice than in Paris...

Salut Pako,

I see you're a real specialist concerning France! 9 years is a lot (and actually it's 9 years for myself now).

The South-East is very special, the parisiens think it's somewhere behind the mountains, more Italy than France If you're a professional from Nice (whatever profession) the parisiens will look down on you, thinking you spend your day lying on the beach rather than working.

I wouldn't recommend it for summer beach holiday. It's overpriced and the beaches are small and weather is nice in other places as well.

It's really about the mild and sunny winters, normally. It's actually the english who discovered Nice for winter holiday and the famous 'Promenade des Anglais' (a really nice place to walk on a sunday afternoon) is named after them.

And soon the sun will be back
