The combo was mostly the a700 and the ZA 135mm. The ZA 85mm, Minolta 100mm Macro, and the Tamron 14mm 2.8 also got some playing time. All shots taken from a tripod. This allowed me to use iso 200 for just about all shots. Took me over an hour to get all of these but I never noticed the time going by. It was too much fun.

Tamron 14mm 2.8 sounds intriguing, I rarely heard it being used. I'll try to find one copy here to see what it can do (will be hard to find one though).

Daughter's other half Colin carving the turkey while she does serious stuff at the sink. Colin is lucky enough to photograph this well despite being the wrong side of 30 (they have both been refused admission to all sorts of things, and can hardly ever buy wine at the supermarket without ID or driving licence - they just look too young!). And it was not posed. I got a Gitzo carbon fibre Traveller tripod from Shirley - I would never have bought one myself, even though they are incredible and at 36cm long when collapsed don't get forcibly removed from you at airports. Used it with the A900/28-105 and 58 flash for this with 1/30th shutter speed on manual to get the lights OK.

Our first Christmas dinner away from Kelso. We have done Christmas dinner for 20 years here now for the family, but things move on and now for the first time, we got invited to one of theirs instead. Then we got back home, and realised that we had not bought any mince pies or anything at all - we normally stock up on all kinds of nuts, fruit, cheese, drinks and things for the rest of Christmas day after dinner, and didn't buy any at all...

They had a new robot vacuum cleaner in their flat. Fascinating. It really works. Just before we left, it undocked and started going round the room cleaning up. I accidentally let it bump into my foot, and - just a natural reaction - I went and said 'sorry!' to the robot!

David, that's a fun kitchen scene!

As a father you're very lucky to be served a nicely rosey, delicious turkey and meet the robotic new member of the extended family. You were fed a proper meal and probably felt proud and well-taken-care-of afterwards.
My poor dad had to eat a still-raw piece of meat and a mixture of two different recipes that I only saw my mother doing but never done on my own. I was 8 years old and trying to prove to my mother that I could take care of myself when she was away at the hospital, that my grandmotheer need not come to look after me. But in the end it was my father who could actually eat the meal and finish it too, so that I wouldn't be heart-broken with thoughts of failure. And he made a point of saying 'it's delicious! it's delicious believe me!' over and over again...

The things that fathers would do for their kids.....they exceed all imagination! and they become this super hero of the family.

Thanks for all the big and small bits you do for us when we request them so impatiently at times but you are like a well with all the sources and equipment dating back to when I was chasing bugs as a toddler in the garden!
