Re: Orange
Haha, I told you the Industar was a nice performer.
Very good details.
Very good details.
Re: Orange
Very good Armen,
Also, the colours are very bright and true. I love the contrast between the orange and snow colours. The subjects definitely contribute to yoour experiments.

Re: Orange
Very interesting shots Armen. I like #1 best. How did the oranges end up in the snow? (
Nex 5, Nex 6 (IR), A7M2, A99 and a bunch of lenses.

Re: Orange
I have buried some oranges in the snow and the other one I put on the top.
What do you think will it be interesting if I include to this shot some other fruits of different colors??
By the way these are Greek oranges with thin crust

Re: Orange
The Industar is a Tessar-type lens which was made in a wide range of variations. Best known Industar models are the 52mm f2.8 in Leica M39 thread (for the Fed 2-3 series mainly), a similar 50mm f2.8 and f3.5, and an M39 thread reflex model made for the original Zenith 3M camera which came before the Zenith E model. The 3M had a Leica thread, but a Pentax back register, and the 50mm f3.5 Industar was the budget lens for this model (a Jupiter 58mm f/2 was the expensive option - f2.8 examples are rare). The 39mm thread Industar will not focus on infinity if fitted via a Leica thread adaptor to any other camera, though perhaps a special adaptor could be made. But it will work on bellows as a macro lens. Various Industar lenses have number after them, indicating the model (26M is early 52mm, 61 is modern type etc). I am not sure whether any exist in three-element Cooke design form, I think they were all four-element Tessar-type.
The East German equivalents were the Meyer Triotar 50mm f3.5 (three-element) and Domiplan 50mm f/2.8 (four-element) which are basic quality, and of course the CZ Jena Tessar (four-element) 50mm f2.8. From W Germany, the Steinheil Cassar and Cassarit lenses are worth trying. The ISCO Gottingen Isconar and Isco Anastigmat may also be found - all these were made in Edixa (42mm screw) mount. But if you can find a Schneider Xenar for Edixa, or a Rollei 35 screw thread Tessar, or a Voigtlander Carl Zeiss Oberkochen 42mm Tessar or own make Heliar - even more worth getting.
I would rate these 1950s-70s 42mm thread brands in order of general quality:
Top rank:
Leitz
Angenieux
SOM-Berthiot
Kilfitt
Schneider
Carl Zeiss Oberkochen
CZ Jena (variable)
Rollei SLR lenses with 'HFT' coating (T-star equivalent)
Fujinon lenses with 'EBC' coating (ditto)
Asahi Pentax - whether SMC (as above) or earlier can be exceptional
Olympus FTL screw thread lenses
Genuine Topcor (difficult to adapt)
Miranda Soligor branded lenses - the earliest designs for Miranda, especially the 50mm f1.9 Soligor and the Miranda 42mm thread standard designed for the Miranda T
Minolta screw thread 50mm f3.5 macro
Taylor Taylor Hobson (TTH)
Kodak Ektar lenses
Anything with Canon, Nikon, Serenar, Nikkor, on it even if it is Leica screw - worth trying on bellows or with an adaptor for close-ups
Second rank:
Russian Jupiter, Industar, MIR etc lenses - 1960-70s
Ricoh, Chinon, Cosina, Vivitar
Steinheil
ISCO
Meyer-Optik (mainly because of the Triotar, Domiplan and Primoplan which are not good performers)
Corfield Lumar, Lumax (manual 39mm/42mm lenses made for a rangefinder-style Periflex body which took Leica or Pentax fit glass)
Anything from AGI (British - Agiflex makers)
Anything from Wray, Dallmeyer or other British 1950s single-coated stuff (some exceptions, Dallmeyer made stuff for Leica thread which was OK)
Third rank:
Russian lenses from pre-1958, and also from 1980s when Zenith lenses became very crude
Some screw thread Yashica lenses
Some screw thread Mamiya lenses
Probably a load of others: example, never found a 'Paragon' lens worth using, same goes for 'Makinon' and loads of cheap Japanese 1970s lenses
Others can probably add to this list. You never know what will be found in markets and sales.

Re: Orange
Be careful - they are NOT all the same. There are many makers. I have two plain ones, and one of them I have marked DO NOT USE ON A700 - because it jams solid on A700. The tolerance are just too tight, and I had to damage my A700 slightly (holding the camera with a wrench) to remove the adaptor. I have just bought two with AF confirmation, not tried yet. Test any M42 adaptor with great care, there are many very poor examples from China available.stevecim wrote:Hi Armen and Doc
