SAR effort in Virginia Beach

Unread post by ruthless »

Noticed a USCG seahawk flying very low, so I grabbed the A700 my 75-300 and went to investigate.
The wind was howling and gusting to 40kts, these chopper pilots really know their stuff.
There were even rescue boats out there. Turns out someone in the apartments in the first picture, saw a small boat with a single person go into a wave and not come out. NOAA reported heavy wind several days in advance. It is amazing what folks will do for a striped bass fillet. Search was called off after a few hours. All this happened within in 1/4 mile of the beach. Hell of a way to start the new year.
