Recently visited Durban harbour.

The first is absolutely wonderful, awesome.
But I'm afraid in the second shot the blackened water is ruining the upper part of the shot, which in fact has a nice rendition of light in the background.

I think the second shot has impact. It may not be smooth, but it is less expected, and stronger. As an editor/designer, I would like it, because the dark area of water is perfect for setting white type on.

Thanks for the comments Doc.. but don't understand what you mean.. this is how it was.. very dark in FG.. lighter in BG..

Thanks for commenting David.. I too felt that the second image had more impact than the first.. maybe just a variation of tastes.. but shows how well the A700 handles night scenes..

No offense intended Doc, but I really, really like the second photo and the way that the black water reflects the white boats. It is less conventional than the first photo - which I also like very much - but I find it very appealing.

Not at all. Why should I be offended?
Probably if it was posted in a separate thread I would've been amazed too, but I'm much attracted with the first.
After all, who said I should have a good taste

Hi Robbie,

I like them both, for the different elements they bring to one's attention. The second one definitely draws the eyes to the hulls of the boats which are even more strikingly pronounced by their own reflections...
