As we are on the east coast of the UK the sun sets over the land rather than the sea, but we can get some nice reflected light.

These were taken this afternoon (Tuesday 13th Jan), as the light was dropping I could get some slower shutter speeds to blur the waves. (sorry Greg no fishermen in these shots - I may have one later). For those who are interested this is Blyth beach in Northumberland.

All shots taken with A700, KM17-35 and Cokin ND Grad + Circular polariser to slow down shutter speeds

Very nice. a lot of times you can get a lot more colour in the sky with the sun setting behind you and it's very pretty

As always, great shots, specially the first. The third one is very beautiful, but IMHO I think you should clone out that bar in the sea, otherwise this might even win.

These are all lovely! The colors especially are very good...some might have over saturated them, but you exercised restraint. Nice. I like the first and last compositions best; the first because of its very balanced distribution of elements and particularly for that rolling wave through the middle. How long was this exposure? The exif data is wiped.

The last is very interesting because there could be a couple of very different crops that would still make complete and balanced compositions; specifically, a horizontal crop from the bottom half would give 4 bands of textures: the grass, the sand, the foam, and the sea. I liked it well enough without this crop, but when I went to reply, I scrolled down in the "topic review" and it gave me that crop in that little window, and I liked it.

It looks like the afternoon sun was able to peek through under the clouds and light up the scene nicely, they are all well taken Murph, and a quite pleasent looking place too, thanks for the look.

I hadn't realised the exif was stripped, I just use the CS3 built in save for web option to prep images for posting.

For those that want to know, I had some common settings for these pics

All taken in Aperture priority, all CRAW, all Auto WB

Image 1: ISO 100, F11, Exp 1.3 secs, Focal Length 17mm

Image 2: ISO 100, F11, Exp 1.3 secs, Focal Length 17mm

Image 3: ISO 200, F13, Exp 1 sec, Focal Length 22mm

Also a couple of re-works after suggestions

Vertical bar removed - I'm still not convinced that it didn't add something

I liked the bar...I thought its oddity had an appeal, being there all on its own like a strand of weed.

The new additions are also very nice Paul, I just love these fluffy, candy colours blending in with the curvelinear foam patterns.

I got a number of really good shots on this session, this one is my favourite so far - I've printed it tonight for a club competition and it looks really good.
