Took a weekend trip with the wife to Arizona. A couple of warm shots for those living in colder regions.

Hey Doc. How ya doing?

It's funny how we feel safe by suspending logic. I am hanging my head over the basket of this balloon trying to get a shot of the rope going straight across the bottom of the basket so as to provide some scale to the image. The viewfinder allows me to believe that I am safe and to ignore the fact that nothing stands between me being healthy and me being squashed like a bug.
It was still fun and quite peaceful.

This is a shot of the companion balloon. The third unit suffered tears in the fabric during set up and those folks stayed on the ground. Their loss.

I think I like #1 the best, but #2 is a close second. I like the perspective of #1 and the pastel colors.

Doc, my preference is your #1. Cool seeing the balloons with the snowy mountains in the background.

That was fortuitous Winston, enter stage left a heard of gazellepedes, sure beats the hell out of just another baloon shot.

ps. Hmm whilst I like the idea of baloon rides intrinsically, the thought of that huge burner not far from the fabric which holds you aloft....that could disappear in an instant if flame were too actually come in contact with it....

When I visited Luxor in '99, I don't remember any balloon rides being available.

What I'll never forget is the drawing of the kangaroo on the wall in one of the Pharaoh's tombs. Somewhere, thanks to some Konica 1600 film, I have a shot of that.

Kangaroo? ancient Egypt? sounds a bit sus...don't you think? I didn't think they were that widespread...although come to think of it the ancient Chinese did a lot of exploring and trading very early in the piece, they even took back a Giraffe from Africa (via slow junk...the mind boggles) too show the Emperor of the time...apparently the populace were dumfounded that such a creature could exist, so anything is possible I guess....why then did the Chinese become isolationist after doing all that groundwork and possessing such a powerful fleet...long term pressing problems with the Mongols maybe?
