It always depends on what you want to achieve, so the first one can go as expressive or overdone... I share your feelings with this subject and never feel at ease in such environment...
Without the neighborhood of the first image the 2nd is a fine quite scenery where the almost perfect symmetry supports this feeling of quietude. Well done.
