I went to New Mexico with my wife this past week as my hospital unit was being renovated. Normally, in a road-trip to the West, New Mexico is a state we just blow right through. Usually there's an obligatory stop at Carlsbad Caverns, but this time we went did the whole tour and saw everything we've been missing. More pictures to come later, and as always, comments and critiques are welcome!

Is that last one at White Sands National Monument? I stopped by there in 2007. Up in the north I went camping in 1999 at Bandelier National Monument and that was cool too. Of course, visited Carlsbad Caverns National Park too.

It wasn't clear, are you starting a photo post or did you just want people to comment on yours?

Yes, that is White Sands. It was beautiful, and what a place to use a polarizer! The first picture is from the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, aka "The Very Large Array", and the second is of a mountain overlooking Albuquerque... it isn't the most clever or original composition, but from a moving car it was a pretty nice exposure.

Those antennas look like something out of the Jodie Foster movie Contact from a few years ago. I wonder if it was filmed there?

Hey Kevin, I wonder if that service station is still around where "Sarah Connor" stopped too get gas in the jeep, it was down that way, in New Mexico I think, but of course it might have been just a movie set piece.
I like those pix btw, espesh the antenna ones......and that abandoned service station of Henry's.

Yes, that's the place where they filmed "Contact," and not that I needed it for confirmation, they have a little bulletin board inside with photos from the set and a story about the production of the movie. I am less certain about the Terminator set, though...it could have been Arizona or California.

Thank you Bodak! I had another member on deviantart take a shine to my VLA pictures so I processed one more. It isn't the best by any means, but I thought it was pretty fun.

Just thinking, how would that look if the "subject" was on the left instead of the right side?

Hmmm...I see what the Doc means. Everything is on the right side in that image, including subject, shadow, and signature.

BTW, I never mentioned it, but I liked that Rt 66 truck stop picture...very well balanced elements with neat divisions of negative space throughout it. I also start to wonder what's in the shadows.

I agree with you, Kevin and forgot to mention that I like that silhouetted picture you posted.
