Carpe Photo Opportunity

I was all set up to take pictures of the new pup. Openned all the curtains, moved the love seat into position for the best natural lighting, covered it with a fleece cover, aimed the flash to bounce correctly, measured the whit balance with a filter, etc., etc. and took some test shots. I was set!

Then I set the pup (8 weeks) on the couch got ready to take some shots when the older pup (14 months), pushes his way onto the couch.

As they say in Latin "Carpe Photo Op." (not to be confused with fish pictures) Here are some of the results.

Love the first photo where both are in focus. The young pup has a great expression, while the older looks all comfy and relaxed.

Good shots! It was a great opportunity and your efforts with lighting show, but I have to agree with Aster. The second could have been better than the first, stopped down a bit more, maybe to f/10, and got both puppies in focus.

Thanks for the kind comments. As to the puppy being in focus making the second picture better, I respectfully disagree. That would certainly be conventional wisdom, however ... The reason I like the picture is that it's a portrait of Magnus, the new big brother. The puppy being out of focus and him in focus draws my eyes right to him. Perhaps I just need to put my glasses on .

They really are cute, especially the youngest one! They inspire a will to get some extra puppies around this spring.
Magnus certainly has that air about him of that relaxed and confident 'big brother' while the little one still looks as though 'checking'.

I also like the quality of white in your photos, you used the natural light smartly with no distracting hard shadows.
