saw this duck attack a swan on sunday

and the swan cleared off, then it started attacking everything in sight , a mean mean duck , why did it do this

Geese are VERY territorial and quite aggressive. Looks like the Canadian Goose and it will defend its territory quite fiercely.
It considers the area around him to be home and will run out any strangers.

there is a whisky distillery just outside glasgow, ballantynes ( dumbarton) and it had geese all around each building fenced in, they are used as guards and create an almighty racket if anyone tries to get near the buildings , don,t know if they'd attack someone but by the looks of this one they would

heh! they can be pretty intimidating... but they have no arms! and can't doo much damage. now if you hear one ticking... thats a difernet story.
if you want some free booze from that distillery just bring a few cans of sardines, you can then use the geese as pack mules to help pack out your load, of course they will then follow you home.

If you believe the Romans then Geese saved their city from Gallic invaders by raising the alarm when the Gauls tried to sneak in to the city at night. No tinned sardines then I guess

We have a lot of Canadian Geese in this area. The Southern States of the US. Tom made a very good point that Geese in mating season are very aggressive to the point where I have actually seem them cripple another goose.
Keep in mind that Geese, once partnered stay so for life!
Young Geese will stop at absolutely noticing to defend there territory and prove there woththyness to a mate. Canadian Geese have even been known to attach humans and farm animals!
