Just back from a family holiday on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides (Scotland). I managed to get the opportunity to take a few pictures in this idyllic landscape. I'm very interested in any comments, especially on how to improve the results.

The weather was mixed but there was fine weather at some point each day. The first set are evening shots.

Next some shots during the day.

Some shots from further around the coast from where we were staying.





All with the Tamron 17-50.

It's just an amazing place. Pity that the temperature is not like the Caribbean with those blues and colours it so resembles - I guess that is the only downside.

Some lovely shots there, the sand and sea colours from Harris always look so inviting (although they don't convey the sea temperature)

The first shot of the second set particulary appeals to me.

Also its good to see what a change in viewpoint does for the image in the pictures in the third set, you can see the pink flowers and yellow lichen as a small detail in the first one but they add good foreground interest in the second.

As for improvments I think the evening shots in the first are a little dark (at least on this monitor) and a lot of the shadows have ran to black, if you could lift the dark tones a little this may help (or it may not - personal opinion only

Cracking shots. What a serene and tranquil location. The fourth one looks like the Bahamas.

Thank you guys. The colours are amazing there and I'm glad if I've captured a suggestion of that. I'm not keen on very hot temperatures so perhaps Harris is better than the West Indies for me

I will try as you suggest Murph and try and lift the very dark colours in the evening shots.

Birma, these photos voice the call of the beach!

I feel like heading to one of our coasts and have a taste of the salty waters in the South of Turkey...the beaches will hardly be as isolated for this kind of privacy but the water certainly will be warm enough to swim for long times and the sand soft and cool for long beach walks...ahhhhh!

The flowers on the Harris Island are ver attractive as well.

Some nice tropical scenery there Birma the bleached sand and turquoise waters...maybe toss in a few coconut palms and bob's your uncle.
Actually I don't mind that evening shot, as a memory, mood, momento type shot, but probably not to put on the wall, the overall tone might be a bit dark for that maybe, although you could try it out in a room with good lighting, you could just stickytape a 10X8 or larger on the wall and see if it works, it might surprise, you never know.

Thank you Yildiz and Greg. I am back home now, many miles from the sea (for the UK anyway ) and so I feel the call of the beach especially.

I am still having a play around with the dark shot Greg - thanks for the suggestion, I will try it out.
