This is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the UK, but it is still a good place for taking pictures.

I almost forget the long days. Last night I had an email from friends in Hawick saying they had a Homecoming Scotland music session, and I had finished enough work, so I reckoned 90 minutes spent there would be worthwhile. Like an idiot, set of at 8.10pm with no camera - then drove the length of the Teviot Valley in glorious golden evening sun with incredible fields and trees, shadows, textures and colours! I hardly ever go out in the evening sun because my windows face south-east, and you don't get any sensation that it is sunny after 5pm. When I drove back at 10.20pm the day was still light, with a beautiful clear sky, and again, no camera.

Today is plain dull and cold.

Kerpow! Absolutely lovely skies Murph. I like #1 the best as it seems to me to be the most complete picture. I love the colours in #2 and #3 but my eye is drawn off to the right (the clouds?). The DR is great in the sun-set shots. I understand better what to aim for now.

Hope you don't mind but here are a few others from the same shoot. The last three were all portrait format, so here are three landscape to redress the balance.

These were taken after a long day at work and I decided that the beat way to chill out was a trip to the coast for an hour or so, in the spirit of Davids attempts to catch alphas in the wild, I also met a couple taking pictures (however on closer inspection its was with a Canon - but they were still friendly and relatively new to the hobby so asked a lot of questions about getting the camera off program and about the ND grad filter I was using etc., it was nice to talk about photography in general and pass on some tips)

Hi Murph - I like #4 and #6 best, probably #4 just pipping it, not sure entirely why. Something to do with the angle of the stakes marching off to the distance? I like the idea of using the photo trips to the coast to unwind at the end of the day. I'm working in Somerset at the moment so perhaps I will give it a try.
