Somebody mentioned lizards recently, and as it happens, I spent a couple hours one afternoon last week trying to get a decent shot of a lizard, so I thought I'd post one or two:





I'd left the macro lens at home, so these were taken with the 85/1.4 right around its closest focus. It's not generally known as the sharpest lens around, but these seemed to come out pretty sharp looking -- and the first shot is close to a 100% crop too. It probably helps that it was stopped down to f/4 in the first shot and f/5.6 in the second -- but at minimum focus, the depth of field wide open is roughly a gazillionth of an inch!

I like second one really nice one, but are you sure that it is a lizard??

The second photo indeed displays the majestic quality of this type of lizard. Looks like a dark knight.

Thank you -- and no, I'm honestly not certain about what it is. A lizard was a guess, and offhand I'm not even sure what the other possibilities would be.

Thank you -- you're very kind. Only a true knight is manly enough to get away with showing off a bright orange fan.

#2 is it for me. That colourful throat pouch in combination with the monochrome body of the animal is great.

The first photo of your last post very good; composition and colours are more dynamic and the reptile appears in full glory.
I found out that this type is called fan-throated lizard-Sitana ponticeriana in Latin. It's known to be endemic to India and such lands but surprisingly you must have shot these photos in N. America.

Thank you. Yes, these were taken in Florida -- I'm afraid I've never (yet) visited India. Frankly, I was quite surprised at the sheer number of lizards I saw there, especially since I'd always assumed they were most common in more desert-like areas. I'm pretty sure I saw a number of different lizards with the throat pouch (though they do move very quickly, so I s'pose I might have seen the same one more than once).

Yup -- from the way they move, I decided the just levitate, and their connection to the ground, fence, or anything else was mostly accidental!
