First Waikiki shots with fixed A700

I got my A700 back from Sony last week, but couldn't use it because Sony lost my LCD protector. They sent me a new one and I got it late this afternoon so I finally was able to go out and use the camera. Here are a few shots from late today at the Kapahulu Groin:

Could be Doc, could be, I remember Henry posted some beach shots once that were taken with a 100-300 Apo, but I don't know if he still has it.

I was using the 18-250mm. It is the lens I usually have on the A700.

Actually, it was the original 100-300mm non-APO. At the time I bought it the APO version didn't exist. I bought it in Tokyo in 1991 and I gave it to my wife to use with her A100 last year. If it had been the APO I probably wouldn't have given it to her. Actually, the non-APO works pretty well and the size/weight is quite good, but in high-contrast situations the CA is pretty bad on digital. I used it some in 2007 on the A100 to shoot some bodyboarders and with the strong light many of them had a lot of CA and purple fringing. Hard to fix.

The light was very nice yesterday. I was taking those shots about 6:00 PM. In the first two photos those guys were waiting for waves to come crashing against the wall and they would jump into them. Here is one of the waves:
