I think I like Venice004b the best. Great body position. If it was my photo I would crop it a bit tighter though.

I found a quick way to present the edit from the first two days - my shots only, so far, Shirley's will be edited later - of six. 119 final retouched, straightened, dodged, scaled, cropped, rotated etc as necessary. You can gather a bit about my thinking as a photographer from the content, but they are not in strict order. You'll see for example three shots of a wine boat, four shots of 'roadworks' - stuff I would always routinely cover. In fact if something is happening (rather than something just being there) I will photograph it.

Thanks for the pics Bossel and Henry. Great stuff. I particulalry like the B&W scans - they are inspiring.

A really interesting slide show, thanks DK. It is interesting to see the "behind the scenes" view; the road works, market stalls, the wine delivery etc. It is often quoted the Birmingham (UK) has more miles of canal than Venezia but I suspect they are not as pretty . It would be great to do a comparison shoot.

(OT: DK, also saw your Levellers vid from the Zi6 on YouTube - looked like a great gig. A band I like to go and see if they are playing nearby.)

I like Bakubos ponte dei sospiri. Currently it's hidden behind some "curtains" so no way to get anything like that

Thomas, I like your cropped/tight shots (not necessarily the landscapes). Great story you do tell by those shots.

For centuries you have been able to see the view in my photo. Consider yourself lucky that you got to see it with the curtains.

Venice tries to make construction work into art - though some of the permanent work, like the barrier surrounding the Campanile, means that pictures we were once able to take will never again be possible.



The Bridge of Sighs, and what may be a pun in Italian about a sky of sighs (not quite sure of the significance). 70-30mm SSM G.



Barrier round the Campanile, with interpretation material about works designed to prevent the square flooing during the high water season. Sigma 12-24mm. Again, the flooded square itself is a photogenic event, once the work is done there may never again be a view with water and a reflected basilica and campanile.
