report vulture`s france with sal 300MM and A700

a view days ago , i came back from my holiday from south-france

we where in the PROVENCE , GORGUS DU VERDON

here are very great mountains , and there live vulture`s

i now a place where i can take picture`s of them in flight

so for this year i hire the SAL 300MM 2,8 SSM , specially for this big birds

at the first moment ,that i have this lens , i am in love with this lens

its very great built , and he is really fast , and sharp
i hope that once in my life i can buy this lens

for using this lens , i used a monopod , but after five minutes i take my monopod off
so all the time i held my camera with this lens in my hand , and it was not a problem , the AS of the camera did a really good job


the vulture`s flying under , above , and at the same high as me , so it was very difficult with a monopod

so with all the shots , i held the camera in my hand , it was not so heavy

all this weeks in france , we have every day sun , not any clouds
so it was difficult with the sun , but at some position`s the light of the sun was good , but the vulture`s must fly at this position ,

at this topic i place twelve picture`s in total

Welcome back Gustav,

These vultures-in-flight are beautiful. I especially loved the close-ups with sweet sharp details of the plumage in the 5th and 6th shots respectively. All are very inspiring and it was good seeing how you actually motioned the camera in hand throughout the shoot. I know that lens to be pretty heavy but you do make the whole process seem 'lightweight'.

Thanks for sharing the experience. I downloaded them all to a folder called 'Gustav's Vultures-France' on my computer to study even more closely at later times. I hope that's fine with you.

Hi Gustav,

Nice to see some quality pictures, and glad to see you made it back - you need a safety harness for standing up on the wall with that heavy lens.

Those birdies are a bit larger than Kingfishers.

Aster has beaten me to sending her a private email inviting her to return! Very glad to see you back, I know why you have felt able to return. Gustav mailed me privately to ask advice about putting a long series of shots here, he did not want to break the limits set per post. I explained that the limits are to prevent very large posts which fail to load, or take ages to load, on slower systems - and we have no problem with occasional four-image posts.

Great pictures long awaited from this trip you planned Gustav!

I the last shot I noticed the 70-400 just lying in your bag... how about coming to Armenia and taking you on higher cliffs without any borders to hold you?
