Last Friday I got home about lunchtime and my wife told me to fetch my camera and a lens , a long one . She poured me a glass of wine and told me to go and sit in the paddock

I did:


Poured herself one too you'll notice

It seems I'd missed most of the family air day at the RAF base next door, but.........



and then:



followed by the most deafening noise I've ever experienced..............

came so close and travelled so fast I could hardly get a line on the beast, but after a couple of passess right overhead (scaring the daylights out of my cats) it disappeared



and finally the resident model we see on a daily basis



(They even dropped one in the local field recently but pilot ejected safely)

Barely had time to think about settings and some of the shots were a long way off,
but I was pleased with the opportunity

Of course, the slower ones were a bit easier to shoot overhead but then my lens combination was much too long

Great catches, Brian. Must be hard to get them when they're flying fast. But if you miss them, hey, you're still relaxing in your garden and your wife is serving drinks. Can't get better

BTW, how on earth do you shoot with a cup in your hand

Good going! That third plane shot looks like he was flying almost level with you. Must have been really low.

Great line up Brian - #2 is fab IMHO, looks like a model rather than the real thing whizzing about. It sounds like the ideal photo shoot - relaxing in the back garden with a glass Mind you, it sounds a bit dicey with Harriers dropping out of the sky all around you - yikes.

Thanks Henry. It did pass me literally a few feet from the deck on full afterburn. The virbration was astonishing. My cats were in the paddock (in a special pen so that they cannot escape) and they were petrified so I abandoned the camera to get them back in the cottage.

I showed them some of my shots afterwards and they weren't impressed

I do like that spitfire, nice one Brian.

Yet, you didn't answer my 1st question (and do answer to the following: how many glasses? )
Oh, I forgot to say that the shots are great, even the last one!

Nice shots Brian, personal airshow and no crowds or traffic to contend with (get home earlier next year) -

(And I thought the kids playing football in the field behind our house made a noise).
