Tynemouth sunrise

After dropping my daughter off at the ice rink at 6:30 AM (shudder) I went along to the mouth of the river Tyne to see the sun rise. There was a bit of colour but then the clouds won and we got some rain.





I also tried a bit of HDR using a new programme I found yesterday ( HDR Darkroom) which is still in Beta and so free to try (download it and have a play) - this is a 3 image merge using the A700 2 EV bracket facility, the programme uses the RAW images, no need for conversion first and runs quite quickly even on my now aging PC.

Your daughter needn't go to an ice rink for her practices. The water surface in these scenes are 'perfect icy smoothness'!

Hi Murph - lovely dawn shots - I like #3 the best. I know lots of people get all worked up about HDR - but I really like this one. The sea defences, with the lovely weathering, take you in the picture and the dawn light on the horizon. Is there a slight lean to the right in #3? I'm never sure if it is just me? Thanks for the tip about HDR Darkroom - I have downloaded the beta and will give it a try.

As I'm processing the images I found a couple more I'd like to share

The smooth water is from the long exposure, due to low light levels (4secs, f13, iso 200)



After it got a bit lighter, I was watching a Cormorant fishing in the harbour, and managed to catch it as it popped up with a catch - the angled light on the relatively still water gave the unusual effect. This one was taken with the Sigma 70-200 HSM
