Took this at lunch today. I must say that loading PS Elements 7 onto my work computer was a good idea.
I was testing out the new Sigma 24-70 2.8 HSM and also wanted a fall color shot that was just about color. The technique is grade school I know, but what the heck.

I remember when the first parfocal zooms with a decent range like 3:1 appeared. Ernst Haas, Francisco Hidalgo and others used this technique - it was never all that successful with varifocal zooms like the original Zoomar, or very short range zooms like the Nikkor 43-86mm, though with care a 2:1 zoom could work. One of the best Minolta lenses for this technique (with daylight exposure times) was the 50-135mm f/3.5 push pull, another was the 40-80mm f/2.8 with the lever action (extremely fast).

Showing an example like this was obligatory in photo books in the 1980s, and on general photo books with multiple pix on the cover there was often something like this.

I like taking these types of shots every now and then so that I can see shapes instead of objects.
