Pup Pictures

The breeder that we got Magnus (M-litter) and Nelke (N-litter) from is up to the P-litter. They let me take pictures of the four week old puppies. I tried to hide one in the chest but they we're keeping a close eye on me.
Worked out lighting for the chest ahead of time. It was difficult not to get a nasty reflection off the lid.

For shots of the N-litter I used blue (for the boys) and pink (for the girls) fleece background. Since then I've discovered that beige fleece makes a better background.

It ws great playing with eight four week old puppies, almost makes me want another.

An 'awww!' from me also. Your photos make me want to fill the house with puppies...
The lighting looks good. I like the reflected lights in their eyes.

Very cute, looks like no. 1 would have been a fleeting moment to capture, well done. Good lighting, flash on both left and right?

Lighting was two Interfit super5 Cool-Lites one on each side (compact florescent). I don't like using a flash with puppies that young as it can be scary. When used with some daylight coming in through the window it seems difficult to get the white balance right , hence the one shot being kind of pink. Even though I used a picture of a white card to read the white balance and used the same white balance settings in DxO, it seemed to vary greatly with the location of the pup on the couch.

Yes I saw the slight WB wobble, (and wondered briefly which was more correct) but it didn't spoil the shot so I didn't bother about it. Daylight mix can be noticible, I reckon, if it's contribution is a goodly amount and the wavelength is on the long side. Your sunlight at present might only be about 4000K-5000K perhaps, a warmer looking light than white light, but it still looks good to my eye, I like that slightly more than the white light only I think, it can give a golden tone to the skin in portraits...
