I hope nobody minds me introducing a new concept to this forum - a thread where everyone can contribute on a specified subject.

When I'm out and about with my camera in rural settings something that always captures my attention is trees, hence the topic title. I would love to see everyones take on trees, as they can be a most difficult subject to capture in the same observation that you see with your eyes.

Yeah great subject, and nice shots as well, actually there was another thread on trees that Henry started, and it developed into a very large one on trees, have a browse through there if/when you get time....some amazing tree shots in there.

Hi Ewannawe, a great subject and some great pictures - I especially like #1. I like the crystal clear and clean feeling and the great colours.

A couple of recent ones from me.





I think we may have had a tree thread before, but that is no reason that we shouldn't have another - I'm sure there will be plenty more pictures.

Ewannawe, glad to have another photo thread. Actually, I started one a few minutes ago before I saw that you had a new one too. That's okay, they are different subjects. I used to occasionally start these kinds of threads, but haven't recently.

Another photo thread is always welcome though. I'll see what I have to post here that wasn't posted in the other thread (more recent photos, etc.).

Ewannawe- Nice shots. #1 is my favorite. That creek leading to the curved horizon is awesome (with a great tree as well).
Birma- I love the B/W image.
I've already posted my most recent 'tree' photos from my foggy morning shoot, so here is an older one from late late fall last year while there was still a little green to be found.

I posted most of my favorite tree photos in the earlier tree thread, but here is a more recent photo at Lake Martin, Louisiana:

More nice trees Henry and John. I really like the tree by the lake John, is that IR? Was it achieved in camera or in PP? It is a really nice effect with the tree blowing in the breeze, and the calm surface of the water.

Wonderful shots we have here.
I agree with John that Ewan's first shot is superb. (except for the slight vignette)
All I have to do is to find some tree shots and post here.
BTW, Birma that second tree is the one I was pointing in your thread some time ago. It's a Cedar of Lebanon.

A bit of a storm (remnants of cyclone Olga) was moving through this arfernoon and on dusk the neighbour's palm was flapping it's fronds around violently and occasionally striking the high voltage power lines...not much of shot technically (too dark to get a decent exposure), but I'll post it anyway, just for general interest.

Birma- That shot was in camera. As I recall it was about a 45 sec exposure with a cokin SFX IR filter. The lens was either the kit lens or 28-85 macro.

I remember Doc. Glad that I had this one singled out as well. It made a nice contrast to all of the trees that had lost their leaves. It struck me as strange that this tree, that must have been planted as a specialist specimen in the grounds of the country house, was now in a field of crops.

Thanks John. The filter is now on the "to buy list" .

Birma- You may want to buy a good glass IR filter. I had the Cokin SFX filter from a film package I bought a couple of years ago. They are kind of flimsy, and it is a gel filter... Luckily most of my lenses are 55mm so I will get plenty of use from a more expensive glass filter.

I should have realised there would be threads like this already and done a little digging around. Just since i joined up I never noticed one before, ah well.

Guys, just call me Ewan - the rest is really superfluous.

Good idea. I was thinking about the same principals for the "Lens Lore' forum. Actually, I'll start today
