Spent some time on Cedar Mesa in Southeastern Utah this weekend. It is a hot spot for Native American Anazazi ruins. Two of the highlights are below.

That's one amazing spot for one's dwelling. The Ananazi chose a very special spot and indeed it looks like a house with flames soaring up and away from its top.

That top shot was about 11:15-11:30 am. The ladder was about the same the previous day. The last shot was about 4-5 in the afternoon

Thanks. That's a beautiful shot. Such an incredible place to be.It's as if the terrain is set ablaze from the inside but we don't just can't see the flames or feel the heat generated...

A very good idea to go close to the ground and enhance the dark long shadows that are characteristic of such early hours. Against the red of the turf, those long dark shadows are contrasting only too well.

Wouldn't say 'no' to any further photos from the same region if you care to share.

Great shots! Thanks for posting. Anyone who has never visited Utah really should sometime in their life. Amazing places galore. Many national parks and national monuments such as Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Canyonlands, Capital Reef, Grand Staircase-Escalante, etc.

Clever shots and title! It really takes little suggestion, but once the idea is there, the picture of a burning house is quite vivid.

The last one looks like something you'd find on Mars (not that I've been there), except for the grass I suppose, great scene.

The sun FINALLY came out in spurts and fits today. Too bad I only and an hour or two to shoot.

It's been a productive 4-5 days....

This thread reminds me of a note that I intended to write some months ago.

David, you said some time ago that you and Shirley were planning to come to the US this summer, flying into Las Vegas and driving down to Phoenix. I assume that you have been in that part of the US before and are familiar with the scenery and the variety of places that are photographically interesting.

However, if you have not been there, or if you are not thoroughly acquainted with the area, I have suggestions to offer for the route by which you go from Las Vegas to Phoenix. There are places where choosing one road instead of another will cost only a little time, but can make the difference between "very pretty" and "absolutely stunning", and where there is unique scenery that might produce marketable images.

Example #1 - instead of taking Interstate 17 between Flagstaff and Phoenix, take Arizona 89A from Flagstaff through Sedona, Jerome, and Prescott. The road is not as fast as the Interstate, but the biggest delay will be the number of times you stop for photo opportunities - and that is without even doing any research for places you should plan in advance to visit.

Example #2 - The North Rim of Grand Canyon is (IMO) even more spectacular than the South Rim, but the North Rim has only a fraction of the number of visitors because it is a less convenient drive.

As I said above, I assume that you already know where you want to go and exactly how you want to get there but, if that is not the case, I would be happy to offer some personal comments and suggestions that may not be in the guide books you have read.
