I went to a local car rally today and took these images......

Jaguar Badge and Cat

Avis Bonnet Ornament

It was a very bright day so I had the A700 set to aperture priority, f8 at ISO 100, the second image had to be overexposed by 2 stops to get the result

The first one is very attractive.

I agree with the Doc. Normally you see the "leaper" in profile, but this shot is all the more interesting because it shows us the badge and the strength and depth of the waterfall grille. The bird might have done very well with the same treatment, but then you'd be sharing two too-similar images. It does well from the 3/4 view but the composition seems incomplete, and 2 stops over exposure might have been a tad too much.

thanks for the replies guys, maybe I should have gone for a one stop extra on the second shot, at the time of shooting, it looked way to dark at normal exposure and with one stop, maybe it was because I was looking at the image on the camera in bright sunlight and should have waited until I got home.

At least I now know better for next time.........

We've all done it, too. The histogram display helps you keep a good frame of reference when in difficult shooting situations. Remember, though, that the a700 is really good about preserving highlights without clipping, so choosing to overexpose wasn't unwise. A lot of photographers with the same camera do that as a habit.

there is always such much more to learn, even after taking photos for over 30 years...........

I have always tried to `get it right in camera` and avoid external tweakings....... :)
