Minolta AF 300mm f/2.8 Does Liverpool 'John Lennon' Airport

Unread post by Pirate »

Ahoy!

First real use of this beast of a lens on my Sony A700. I wanted to field test it. The images are from RAW to JPG with no sharpening etc (just a little cloning in the sky for sensor dust removal). Basically these are all out of the can. I know the framing is all off, but it was merely to see what results it provided. I'm somewhat gobsmacked.

Reduced to 1024 at the long side, please click links to open.

I really like the shots Pirate - especially like the rear shot with the heat haze from the engines. Funnily enough I saw this lens in real life for the first time yesterday - my local LCE has a second hand one for £2500  . Did you have to use some sort of support with something this big?
Nex 5, Nex 6 (IR), A7M2, A99 and a bunch of lenses.

Ahoy!

£2500 . . . the robbing b******s. You can buy mine for £1500.00. I assume LCE's was the Mk 1 non HS-G version like mine? In any case, that's a right royal rip-off.

As for support, no . . . . just had to try and keep it as steady as I could handheld. Thanks for looking, and glad you like.

Whoops - sorry Pirate - I didn't read the subject carefully enough - it is the Sony 300 f/2.8 at my local LCE

Impressive and sharp indeed, Pirate.

Those lenses are pretty heavy. You certainly had the shakes and movements under check. Good timing with the landings and nice details of the landing gear.

Planes always excite me, as do ships whether I'm about to board one or not. There's always something worthy of observing in their moves.

Enjoy your new lens.

Ahoy Birma!

Well in that case it would be one to seriously consider as the SAL version retails from £4200.00+

Glad you like Greg, but they really are test shots with bad framing. Still got to learn the nuances of a tele/prime.
