Photos with evidence of the photographer

Unread post by bakubo »

Let's start a new photo thread! Please post photos where there is evidence, intentional or unintentional, of the photographer, but the photographer is not the main subject of the photo. You know, a photo that is not a total goof, but a photo that you still like yet it does have some sort of evidence of you while taking the photo. The evidence can come in many forms, use your imagination. Sometimes I even make photos intentionally where I am a minor subject in some way. :) Post your photos!

I will start with this one (from the tiny sensor photo thread where I got the idea) which was unintentional, but I like this photo a lot:

Sounds like fun. Taken with A2 at Monterey Historic Car Races. That was me seen on the chrome dome of the headlight.

With best regards,
Sury

A slightly more prominent photographer! Not my Harley.

Here are a couple of images taken earlier this month that have an almost identical type of evidence of my presence, although that evidence is very, very obvious in the first photo and (IMO) rather subtle in the second photo. It seems to me that at first you will have to really look for me in the second photo, but that once you spot me I am somewhat obvious, as my head, shoulders, arms, and camera are present in that image - although the presence of other reflections does create initial issues.

With best wishes,
- Tom -

Tom,
I love the second one.
Here is one. I liked it for the expression on my daughter's face. She did not realize that I am trying
to take the picture of her reflection in the mirror and she had is the look that said "Dad, what are you doing?".
She thought I was goine mad..... :D
No, my presence was not even thought of, till I took the picture.

While in Egypt, I was in the habit of photographing tickets for record-keeping purposes. Mohamed (our guide and egyptologist) had not seen me do this before and thought I needed some help. This is the fortuitous result.

Cool, Winston!

By the way, I visited the Unfinished Obelisk in Aswan also.

I saw myself reflected in the window but could not find anyplace to stand that would get the framing I wanted and not include my reflection. I decided to just flow with it stand so that half of my body was reflected. I consider photos that have some sort of evidence of the photographer to be a type of self-portrait. The Discovered Photographer. :)

I recently started a new thread Vernacular photography — a means to avoid an end and it has a bit of relevance to the thread we are in now:

http://www.photoclubalpha.com/forum/vie ... =21&t=4259

In the Japan Times article linked to there is this quote about some photos:
The displayed clutter of smiling faces and sunlit scenery might seem to be a radical jump from the contrived funerary portraits next-door. But the reoccurring shadow, which invites us to ponder the relationship between the people in front of and behind the camera, also alludes to the ever-present specter of death, the grim reaper lurking on the fringes of life.

Some of the snapshot shadows are so prominent that they appear deliberate.
I thought that was a coincidence when I read the above. :) Over the years I have sometimes intentionally included my shadow or some other evidence of me. And, of course, sometimes it has been accidental...but are there truly any accidents? :)

Nice long shadows, Bakubo...

: )) Those are very tall versions of you!

This is a fun thread, where we go trying to find the hotographer...like a jigsaw puzzle.
