Jealousy Always Loses You Everyone - A True Story : )
Hi everyone, : )
When it comes to jealousy, even your mother will abandon you.
We humanbeings learned this well and may have paid a high price for the lesson.
But here's a true photo story that animals and birds are no different when it's an offspring jealous of your best friend.
Our lead characters are:
Mother seagull: who has a spectacular pigeon friend called Trendyboots.
Fugnog: baby seagull that lost its sibling but will not share his mother.
Trendyboots: a close friend of mother seagull that visits now and again.
And here is our photo story. I hope you don't get bored... : )

Trendyboots waits patiently for the mother seagull on a rooftop in Istanbul. Fugnog, the baby seagull arrives from a flight but doesn't pay attention to the pigeon. Not interested, Fugnog flies off again while mother seagull is landing.

Mother seagull lands beside her friend Trendyboots
She greets Trendyboots with a loud 'hello' and Trendyboots turns to her side eagerly.
They spend sometime side by side but Fugnog can't curb his jealousy and sneeks up on them.

Trendyboots doesn't like the attitude and flies off...
..Up and away...
..Trendyboots is gone and mother is not pleased. Fugnog feels stupid...

Maybe jealousy, maybe competition. I would guess that the fledgling sees a competitor for food.
So you name birds? Pretty cool.
Keep them coming. The hook has been set.

Mother is angry and walks away from Fugnog
Apparently saying 'sorry' doesn't improve mother's mood...
Fugnog turning to photographer Aster: " I am useless! Even mommy hates me.. Oooo, where can I go and hide?"

Hi Jbtaylor,
Thank you!
Yes, sometimes I do name them, when they present a character and attitude of their own but the baby seagulls on that roof were named by our Greg here. He thought Fugnog was suitable for an ever-hungry baby seagull and the name prevailed. : )
I would say that you probably are right. Fugnog does have a big appetite and loves eating anything and everything, so he must have seen a shareholder in the pigeon and didn't like it. : )

Ha! great bird photo story Yildiz,
it does look like Fugnog isn't pleased with Mothers new friend...I'm just wondering if Fugnog after loosing sibling Jabberwoki too an attack by a crow hasn't developed a deep suspicion of any other strange bird including poor Trendyboots, but yeah you could be right, it might be just the jealosy thing after all, because Mother Seagull does seem to like Trendyboots and Fugnog might not be very impressed with that development, it's as if to say "Hey! I'm the important one around here so take a hike"
Greg
ps. I like the one where you've manage too capture the Mother Seagulls' greeting, that's a great shot.

The commetary wasn't hard since I witnessed the whole episode live. There are more photos giving away how Fugnog, the baby gull is intimidated by mother's good friends, but that many photos would make the photo-story much longer. : )
All I can say is, there's a sense of jealousy or maybe something along the lines of competition in other creatures...which we all witnessed from time to time.
Thanks, David Antony!david antony wrote:Fun picture story Aster.

I'm glad you liked the story and the name, Trendyboots. : )) Wasn't so hard to come up with, if you saw some of the boots the designers created for the market for ladies this year. There are some exactly like our pigeon's leggings! : )

I know how you feel about seagulls in general but from what I can see they do have a social life which they genuinely adhere to in everyday life. The mother seagull and Trendyboots are really good friends, if humans believed in friendships among other creatures, that is!
When Trendyboots comes and waits patiently, being her own style and attitude, the mother seagull always comes from somewhere and there's this 'greeting ceremony' which takes place unwaveringly. She opens out her wings, makes a loud sound of "wuuaaak! wuuaak!" then bows her head in a greeting gesture. It's hard to believe but it is happening! : ))
Humanbeings are very skeptic creatures.
I must admit that Fugnog is not a particularly sensitive baby gull nor is he scared much. Nowadays he flies off to other gull families's roofs and tries to join the other babies in games and food which usually ends in a fight because the families and the babies don't own up to other strange babies. He was bad in assuming that every other bird had to share their food and roof with him but after a number of times of rejection and alienation...and being left isolated on a stranger's roof for the night, he is a better bird now. Much better than before. Now he knows he has to learn to respect and share or he'll always be alone and an outsider too!
: ) Fugnog has come a long way from being a selfish little 'idiot' to a moderately sane, excited, growing gull. Must be the adolescence hitting him hard on the head!
Here's a shot which I didn't include to keep the story shorter than it really is:
Mother seagull bows her head for a while and greets Trendyboots with respect and waits for her to approach! : ) It actually happens!

Re: Jealousy Always Loses You Everyone - A True Story : )
I wonder if we should also take into account the unusual colour scheme (for a Pigeon), it's very similar in style too a Seagull with the addition of the 'trendyboots' of course, Mother Seagull may associate Trendyboots with being a 'regal' type of Seagull rather than with being a normal Pigeon, and giving Trendyboots the respect her exaulted station demands.
All hypothetical of course, they might just be good friends....maybe I have missjudged Seagulls after all....a little.
Greg
ps. I liked the bit about Fugnog becoming 'sane'
