We call those Prickly Pears here in Texas. They make a wonderful jelly, when you can find it. John

I never knew Prickly Pear had fruit before, very good photos Doc, I remember it got loose here at one time, probably from someones garden and they had a big eradication program too get rid of it, it ran rank in our type of climate and soil conditions covering whole districts.

Unbelievable, Dr. Harout!

Unbelievable, because I see these fruits since my babyhood, yet never have I tasted it! My mother put me off as a child because of the spiky bristled skin. Maybe I'll have go next time I see it lying in ice somewhere around the market...

:D Thanks for the reminder!

I had one once a trip thru Peru in the '80's, but don't remember the taste. I do remember the story that they will stop you up if you eat too many, and how my host knew that to be true!
