My bad spine, along with this summer's extreme heat/humidity, is still keeping me from getting out and about with my cameras, so the best I am able to do lately is to photograph some butterflies that come to the flower pots on our deck. I miss hiking the many scenic trails of Fogo Island, and my daughter and I had also hoped to be out on the water by now to see the puffins, whales and dolphins, but until my health improves it just isn't in the cards. But, I have been able to get a few nice shots of birds through my window, and well... I kind of like the butterfly captures!

Here are three more taken in the past few days. I used my Alpha with the old Minolta 100-200mm f/4.5 lens, handheld.

Hi Glen - sorry to hear that you're not able to get out and about. At least you are keeping your camera busy. The butterfly pictures are great - I really like the bright colours. #1 is my favourite with the striking contrast in colours and the great background.

Taking great photos like those is great therapeutic value, at least for the sole anyway, if not for the spine. I hope you are on the mend Glen. Sure is a pretty butterfly.

Thanks Birma, I'm playing with LR3 and learning more and more.
First lesson learned: don't do whatever they tell you to do, try it, use different combination.
Look at Glen's shots here. they have something attractive. We may shoot the same scene in different geographical sites and the PP might force different settings... I guess... or am I still under the effect of anesthesia...

Looks like we'll have to drop the Doc too reserve grade or on the bench for a while while the cruciate heals, hope you're back in the front row soon Doc, we need you too pack the scrum.

I think one can overdo the PP though, I saw a photo the other day (elsewhere) and everyone thought it was wonderful, it was dramatic..yes, but the flowers looked 'plastic' too my sensibilities, I'm not fond of real flowers that have been converted into artificial ones, I didn't say anything to spoil the day though.

I guess we're stealing and deviating Glen's original post.
