This is the first year I have actually gone to the festival. I could only go Sunday morning, as I was on call all day Saturday. I wanted to arrive earlier, but.... I hit snooze a few times too many. This is the first time I have ever shot balloons. Now I want a ride in one even more. If I ever do, I'll bring my camera.
Most are with the a700 and 16-105. I also used my Sigma 10-20, and Minolta 100-300 apo. I even had the a200, and used the Sigma with it. I hope you enjoy. I can't wait until next year. C&C always welcome, John
P.S. I saw 2 other alphas there. An a350, and a a200.

Nice series, John.
Hot air balloons are very photogenic.

Hi John,
This a grand sight! I like the first photo for its completeness, covering the whole scene of the festival. : )
You made good use of the WA lens for individual shots of the preparations. Man pulling the balloon to its station and the like.
Morning light is probably the best light for shooting airborne subjects while in the sky. Makes for a good background that's not too bright
All are good compositions that tell the tale of the festival.
Thanks for sharing,
Yildiz

I like the second one I think cause it's full of balloons, great shot, the first one is great too, btw isn't that the Corel baloon, upper right? sure looks like the one on the box...from memory that is.
Greg

Thanks guys. I have some more to post, so stay tuned. Balloons are wonderful subjects indeed, but I would like more time to do it in. Next year I will have the entire weekend off, and I hope to make the morning and evening launches/landings. It definitely was great fun!
Greg I never saw any markings on that balloon, but it does look like it. John

Super series John and really looking forward to the rest

The colours and shapes are great - I can understand your eagerness to do it again. If you force me at gun point to pick a favourite it is #2

#3 in the first set is my favorite.
Always a target rich environment when ballooning. Get up in the air man. It's beautiful.
